...SRV Live at el Mocambo. 1983 Toronto

If you're an SRV fan or maybe even not, this an incredible hour-long DVD with a great focus visually on his hands and playing. What an incredible talent but we all know that.

I had seen him live in a smaller club setting 300 + crowd in Charlotte, NC that same year and about six months later opening for RUSH but both times a horrible mix. This DVD is a great performance and mix. The close up work, (if you can follow it) is mind blowing.

But, after watching it last night I decided it would not be in my best interest to try to practice afterward since any sound I'd have created would have sucked in comparison.

That's a good video. The Austin City Limits one is a classic too! Eric Johnson at Austin City Limits is great as well.

I would have loved to see SRV live in concert...

got it years ago-still my favorite-why??the PASSION-that shows a man who lives to play the damn guitar -PERIOD..its his baby..passion..desire..his reason..and, most importantly, it lives in every note of that performance-you can smell the smoke and sweat..helluva musical moment in time-going to plug it in right NOW!

You wouldn't have sucked in comparison. People seem to forget that Stevie had a guitar in his hand 24/7, the same with Eric Johnson. It just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice time- wise in order to be a better guitar player. It is just not feasible to play 12 hours a day when life calls for other things.

Well put! I came to a junction in my professional life where I either had to be a specialty camera operator or musician, else I was only mediocre at both. The camera won and it's been a great journey traveling the world living through a helicopter crash and shooting sharks for Discovery Channel to getting a call last Friday morning with only 90 minutes notice to get me, gear and crew together and be on Hillary Clinton's plane for two days to shoot her new national ad campaign; it was crazy, chaotic but exhilarating... a lot like playing live when everything comes together.

I had this on VHS. Twice. Both of them got worn out from watching it too many times. Now I have it on DVD.

It's a great vid and you should only let it inspire you to play, and to play like yourself.

Did anyone notice that on Voodoo Chile SRV played the melody to Power of Soul off the Band of Gypsies album in it? Just for a few bars though.....Perdy sneaky!!!! Love it!!! Been watching that video for years!
