sputtering?

greetings. i have a LSC and i am getting sputtering and crackeling but it is not loud, kinda off in the distance sounding? not real noticable and intermittent. pre-amp tube or tubes bad or going bad? if this is the problem, how long before it gives out? thanx

Does it occur no matter what notes you're playing or is it more prominent on the lower, bassier strings?

Hit a big fat F chord a few times, happen every time there?

the noise is there when the guitar is unplugged too. ive had it on for half an hour or so now and it seems to have cleared up, hence the intermittent part

power tube(s) would be my guess.


It's there even when the pre-amp is down all the way right?

i swapped out my power tubes one-by-one till i found the bad one.
