Hi all,

I'm looking for a 4x12 cab to hook on to my mark IV combo, to give it some more power :twisted:,
though, I have some questions:

What is the best cab to use to get a ACDC, Jet style of sound?
and what is the big difference between the speakers inside? Is there a big difference between those G15... and v30?
I have 2x 4 ohm and 1x 8 ohm speaker output in my markIV... what if a cab is 16 ohms?

I now found 3 good types i think:
Bogner 4x12 V30 Slant 1000 -> euros (new)
Marshal 1960 A -> 450 euro's (2nd hand)
Orange 4x12 with V30 ->650 euros (2nd hand)

Mesa boogie is way too expensive for me, I live in a small country in Europe (belgium) so the shipping costs will also be huge... A new mesa boogie recto 4x12 costs like 1200 euros which is quite much for me

Any help to make my choice of of these 3 will be very much appreciated.

Marshall 1960. And put EL34's in the outer slots. In fact, just buy a Marshall top to go on it - they're two very different sounds.

The orange cabs are built like tanks. The v30s are a good all around, versitile speaker. The speakers in the 1960a will be a bit more scooped. A 16ohm cab can be safely plugged into the 8ohm jack. The manual will tell you what combinations can be used. Youll get the biggest sound from the orange because of its size but I think the 1960a will get you closer to the AC/DC crunch.

Yeah I'm now very intrested in orange cabs, but do they really sound that deep? If I can only get a metal-like sound out of an orange I won't get it... But if the 1960a is versatile enough it would be a good choice indeed. Do you know something about the sound of an orange 4x12? Youtube demo's don't tell me that much :(

In my experience, 1960A's sound relitively bad with Marks, so i'd go with the Bogner cab. The Orange is more suited to metal imo and is very directional.

For the AC/DC sound you can't beat the Marshall cab with Greenbacks. It adds that slight bit warm speaker breakup that you don't really get with a higher wattage speaker. The G12T-75's aren't bad, but a bit too scooped for my tastes.

I have an Orange 212 and it is a great sounding cab too. Very tight and clear, but it's also very versatile; it will do alot more than just metal tones. This would be my second choice after the Greenback loaded cab for what your going for.

thanks for the replies... I am going to test some cabs in the summer and I'll look for greenbacks loaded cabs and 1 orange... though it's hard to find an orange you can try before buy in my country :)

is 650euros a good price for a second hand orange 4x12?

I replaced my JCM800 2203 heads with a Mark IV. I still use my Marshall 4x12 cabs loaded with the stock Celestion 75 Watt G12T-75s. These are JCM900 series to current cabs, so they are mono/stereo wired cabs. In mono you have a choice of 16ohm or 4ohm inputs. I run 2 cabs via the 4ohm outs on the Mark IV. The head sounds great with these cabs, I play metal/hard rock and these cabs handle the Mark IV very well.

Well I decided to buy an orange cab, for a price of 625 euro. I think it's a good price, it's second hand, but looks new, and it's the slope/slant (not rectangular, don't know the word) version, with V30's. In england they cost less, but then I have to shipping and a new one would be 800+...

I'm getting it monday, in netherlands (I live in belgium), it's like 2 hours of driving so I guess it's better than paying the shipping :p

Thanks for the feedback!

:?: so then what are the options in anyones opinion would be to hook up a mark iv head to 2 krank cabs (not sure if its rev or krankenstein cabs,either way theyre 16 ohm cabs), if my outputs are: one 8ohm, and two 4ohm? im playin a show on 5/30/09 (were not allowed to bring our cabs :cry: )and thats whats provided. is it possible? will i blow up anything? should i use just 1 cab? will it sound not as good? -severely confused thanks in advance brothers and sisters. sorry not sure if i hijacked the thread. :?:

You can plug a 16 ohm cab in the 8 ohm jack in your Mark IV without trouble. As long as the ohm of the cab is higher than the ohms of the input jack you won't get in trouble. You would have when you'd put a 4 ohm cab in a 8 ohm jack, cuz then you get an overload and your tubes will die faster.

When you play a 16 ohm cab through an 8 ohm jack, you will probably need to turn the volume a bit higher, as you amp needs to send more power to produce enough volume. Of course the best match is still 8 through 8 ohm, or 2 8ohm cabs parallel in 2 4 ohm jacks, cuz then the total load is 4 ohms. At least that's what I understood reading the forum here :)

Yeah it is load indeed :twisted: I run an 16 ohm orange now with no problems :D those V30's kick ass on my low end :!: I'm curious about running an 8 ohm and 16 ohm speaker at the same time though, No idea how I should do that :S
