Hello!

My dual rec has been re-tubed with Sovtek 5881 in the power section and so far I really like those better than the 6L6 STR430 it had before. They are rounder and smoother, yet very "in your face". I wonder who here is using them also?

Cheers,

Tom.

I don't have a set in any of my Mesas, but I do have them in my Peavey 5150 (didn't choose it that way, previous seller installed a set of those). Definitely a more tubby tone for the lack of better words. Another amp I've tried out with those is a JTM45... 8)

I've used those in my Rectos for at least a decade. My power tube of choice, and you can't beat the price. You can get a matched quad for less than $50.

When I had 5881´s in my 2ch recto it sounded almost like Soldano...Not as deep as str 440´s but it may be benefit for fast metal players and shreders...I´m gona to order quad right now...

edit:I also found it´s perfect combo with Sovtek 12AX7 WC pre tubes V2-V5 except tung-sol in V1...
