hey guys. i'm new here but i really need some help right now:

i was just playing my roadster 1x12 combo today, when i suddenly noticed a decrease in volume... and then it just completely turned off by itself. i'm new to mesa and tube amps. i don't know what could possibly be wrong with it and i'm kinda afraid to turn it back on... anybody have any ideas?

First a few questions please...

1. How old is the Roadster?
2. Did you replace any tubes recently? If so, which ones and with what brands?
3. Did you check the fuse?
4. Do you have it hooked up to a power conditioner, channel strip, etc where you might have hit its power button by accident?
5. Was the volume dip gradual (as in slowly faded to silence and the amp went off) or was it a sudden volume drop followed by an immediate loss of power?

1. i honestly don't know... i bought from somebody on craigslist
2. i haven't. the tubes are all Mesa tubes though.
3. no, how do i check the fuse?
4. no.
5. it was gradual, then i stopped playing to check on it to see if something was wrong and 5 seconds later it turned off.

As far as checking the fuse, when you flip the power switch to on the light on the front of the amp should light up and you should see the tubes lighting up as well. Even if the front light does not come on check the tubes to see if they light up (just in case the bulb is burnt out on the light). If nothing lights up you are not getting any power and your fuse is blown. If that's the case, the most common reason a fuse blows is due to a blown tube although there are other things that can cause that. If your not familiar with tube amps I would suggest taking it to a tech since blown tubes can also take out resistors as well.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TUBE AMPS CONTAIN VERY HIGH VOLTAGES THAT CAN BE LETHAL. IF YOUR NOT ABSOLUTLY SURE ABOUT HOW TO WORK ON THESE I STRONGLY SUGGEST TAKING THE AMP TO A REPUTABLE TECH

you should check the used manual its a good guide! if you dont have it, you can get it from the mesa website. but sounds to me its a fuse problem.
