Well I own a Dual rec,I own several guitars. My main guitar in my alt. rock band is my American Deluxe Telecaster. The pups are still the samarium colbalt noiseless ones you get stock.I have a set of Seymour Duncan Hotrails for tele and a hot for tele neck pickup.Do you suggest getting those fitted?

The rec's are always seen being played with something like an Ibanez or other Humbucker equipped guitar and it seems that 90% of recto users on here seem to use EMG's.

My all time fav. player is a certain Mr Petrucci,I love his sound on the train of thought album and that was recorded wholly on a RKI....a rectifier. Is the pickups and guitar playing a big part in me not achieving this tone(thats obvious I here ya say)

Im also looking into buying another, yes another new guitar, what do you guys suggest,Im not into ESP's thanks but Im looking at a floral Jem or a EB/MM JP6.........thoughts

cheers folks

Euan

I plugged my American Standard Strat into my Dual Rec the other day and it sounded fine. I had to adjust the tone controls some but it was still ok. If I am not mistaken Jerry Cantrell used single coils to get his sound. I still prefer my humbucker loaded Gibsons though.

yea you might want to look into a guitar with humbackers for that sound but I wouldnt shune any single coils though. I recently had my standard tele refitted with a little 59 stacked bucker in the bridge and a vintage stacked in the neck.....sweet,,, Im able to get a real nice bucker sound out of it and with the vintage I can really get that fender bluesy sound out of it. The cleans and the bluesy sound are about the best I have of all my guitars including a custom paul and a 68' casino.

My friends John Mayer strat (one of the best production strats you can get nowadays) sounds pretty thin and weak through my rectos. Grab any old humbucker though and WHAM.

Going from a humbucker to a single coil you really have to make some tone adjustment or it will sound thin. It doesn't matter what amp you are playing.

That is actually the basis for a bright mod on a Marshall. It seems Marshall made amps too bright back in the day so that you could have more use with a Strat but it kind of made things ice-picky for humbucker guitars. So you lift a leg off a solder joint of the little offender thus thickening your tone and you're in business.
