What do you guys think about the Single Recto vs. Express 5:50? And which would you rather have?

Significantly different amps. Would depend on which amp meets my tone needs as to my choice to plunk cash down. What is the 'must have' tone you are looking for? That is the thing that would drive my choice. Both amps are good, but if you must have a Rectifier sound, you gotta get a Rectifier. That is why I got a MKV, but had to have that iconic Rectifier tone in the mix, so I picked up a used Single Rec Series II.

Some people will tell you a certain Mesa amp can cover the Rectifier sound. Just not true. Thats why they still make Rectifiers. Even came out with a new and improved for 2010. 8)

+1 to softtail here, recto's have a very unique sound. I like them but never desired that tone for myself so I went with a DC-5 and have played it for nearly a decade. If you want that modern Recto sound then definitly get the recto.

Yeah, really depends on the sound youre going for.

I had trouble deciding a couple months ago between the express 5:50 and the recto-verb
i went with the rectoverb because i really need that recto sound, although i use the vintage mode more. just sounds awesome without being overly obnoxious, like the modern mode can be.

The cleans on the express are better (but not by much, imo) than the rec, and on the express, its nice to have that dedicated blues setting. The recto has the pushed mode, but it just isnt voiced the same as the express' mode.

Also, its nice to have that 5 watt mode, consider that too...
