Should I trade my ROADSTER for an ENGL POWERBALL II? Say no.

All I want is an amp with great tone, balls, and is reliable. My Roadster has given me great tone, but a whole lot of troubleshooting and grief as well. Every time I get on stage, I have anxiety that it's going to blow up, or overheat, or short out, or whatever. I don't WANT to shop for other amps. I love having the name MESA behind me as I play. How does the MESA community feel about ENGL, WIZARD, or DIEZEL amps?

Man, in Germany there's a figure of speech saying "Montagsmodell" (Monday model or whatever), which means, you can buy the best thing in the world, but if you're having bad luck, you switch it on and it will blow up ... **** happens all the time.

If you are satisfied with the sound of the Roadster, stay with it. What exactly were the issues with it ? From what I've read/heard/know, Boogies tend to be tough beasts normally ...

The Powerball II, I played it before I bought my DR2010, and I didn't like it. Either Clean or Gain can't hold a candle to the DR (therefore, more or less also to the Roadster) in my opinion.

On the other hand, if you like the PB's sound better, there's no reason NOT to switch :)

I sure wouldn't. The Roadster is one of the most versatile amps out there. Of course, on many forums you will hear people say otherwise. Ask yourself this, before you take anyone's advice -- "Do I even know enough about this person's character, tastes, age, etc, to make their opinions relevant?"

For me, the Roadster is amazing. Just this morning I was finding even more sounds with channel 4s modern mode -- a much brighter and less raspy drive sound. I love my Roadster. Do you?

If you don't, then perhaps you should find a different amp? Engl Powerball, Top Hat Deluxe, Vox AC30, Orange Rockerverb, Bad Cat Lil' Cat, EVH 5150III, Fractal Axe-FX, Marshall JVM410, etc.

Good luck.

You're asking this on a MESA forum!? HAHAHA!!
Listen, if you like your Roadster go with that. If you play a Powerball and all of the sudden you have an overwhelming urge to sell your house, your car, and your family to own one then trade up. Your tone is about what YOU need YOUR gear to do, not about what other people think.
If, on the other hand, you simply like the Roadster better you should stick with it.

I personally haven't had any trouble with my Mesa. I don't know the situation here. Did you get a lemon by chance?

ok... NO

haha, I still wonder why people buy an amp with WAY too many functions and stuff that can cause grief down the track.

I am sure they'd be a great amp to have handy in the studio, but the 3ch Rectifiers when set up correctly will have all the sound options you could possibly need for live gigs IMO, especially when used with a few effects pedals, and a guitar capable of more than one tone and output.

I have never used a Mesa 4ch amp though, and with all those many extra options and functions, I wouldn't hope to either.

I played a powerball for a couple of hours before buying my DR . I thought it was a great amp but it didnt speak to me like the DR did . I felt I could get more sounds I wanted out of the recto .
