Should I get a 50/50 power amp?

For a while now I've been using the EL84 driven Peavey 50/50 to amplify my Studio Pre. Its a decent power amp, but I am really curious if I am missing out on any tone by not matching my Studio Pre with the 50/50.

If anyone has tried their Studio Pre with different power amps, was there anything special about matching it with the 50/50?

Dude, from all the hub bub... bub. The Mesa 50/50 is supposedly the perfect match for the Studio Pre.. according to MB.. at least for the Mark IIc+ setup. I've been grinding away with a Peavey ValveKing 100w Head, loaded with 4 6L6's and it's freakin' unreal!!!

I'm really digging this match. I'm dying to test drive my Studio Pre with somebody in the area that owns a Mesa 50/50..

Its funny you say that because I live about a half hour away from you in Doylestown!

I'm seriously considering a 50/50. If I get one, I will surely let you try the *****.

Edit: btw, there's some dude who posted a 50/50 on ebay w/ buy it now that has one for $400. The ear is bent. Not sure what happened to it. I've asked him and he said it's never been dropped, but he isn't original owner and it was like that when he bought it. So, I'm skeptical about that one..

I was looking at that one too...

I noticed the guy already tried selling it for $450 and no one bought it. (found it in completed auction search) I'm surprised he's having trouble selling it. I still might go for it, but I'm gonna sleep on it.

yeah... i've been thinking about it too.. hey, good luck... it's buy it now, so there isn't any competition... was gonna say if you went for it.. just let me know, i'd back off and not bid... but grab it if you want.. i've seen it before it was relisted and thought about it... hey it might drop again if it doesn't sell..

I've got a 50/50 paired with my studio preamp, and i love the combo- linked up with my eventide, and the sound is huge and very detailed.
But i still think it's second fiddle to my 2:100/rectifier recording preamp setup...
