I've been looking at getting a 12U Shockmount Rack and I am not sure which is better: the Foam type shock absorber or the floating shock mount that is held in place with rubber/springs. Anyone know the differences between the two? I am hoping to find a used one for under $200 to store my Quad and a few other rackmount effects. I might end up getting a rackmount kit for my combo as well if it all works out well, and I want to make sure that it is well protected.

Any advice on which type of shockmount case is best? Any companies that are "budget" priced and still good quality? I know anvil cases are the best, but I have been looking at the Gator and SKB cases.

I like the gator ones myself, because they're light. The wood/foam ones are 60-80 lbs to start with generally speaking. Shock racks are generally really heavy and really bulky, so make sure you know what you're getting into. A 12 space shock rack can be as big as a bass 4x12 cab.

Of course, who needs shock racks IMO, I bought an 8 space wooden rack with casters that absolutely rules. But that's just me and not everyone's taste.

I actually have a 8 space wooded rack that I built with a friend of mine. Its about as heavy as my Boogie combo. It's some 3/4 in Plywood with a nice cherry top on it. I stained it real nice and put a ton of clear finish on it. I mean its a beautiful rack, but its not deep enough to fit my Quad pre and I am super careful with it, I hate getting scratches on it since I put so much time into making it look nice. And its ******* heavy...

Hence the need for a new rack. I want something that will protect my tube gear and not break the bank... 12U is just wishful thinking... There are a few peices of gear I know I'll eventually buy... Eventide, Midi controller, drawer for foot pedals, might rackmount my combo into the rack as well...

yeah this is the one I bought:

$179 for an awesome heavy duty rack that's not too oversized. Perfect IMO. Only 40 lbs too. I can easily lift my full rack to put it in our band's trailer and it's got heavy duty bolted replaceable wheels so no need to carry it around.

Go for the Mesa SUS 4 rack, best on the market IMO. You can find a used 12 space for around $200. It's a really great rack..

sus shock mounts are the best...plus there all made by mesa boogie...air cuculation....Quality ....its the best...

Ive got 20 sp boogie and its perfect, well ventilated, etc.... I love it. Im actually looking for another shockmount in a ten spc..but I know i need to get over to classifieds for that.
