What does it mean, tubes redplating ?

My mk4 is starting to behave like this. If I strum hard on the clean channel I get a full sound for a fraction of a second then it is like a noise suppressor is killing the note from ringing out. I also noticed a severe power drop in the amp over all. My bedroom playing level was at maby 1 1/2 on the output in tweed mode but now I have to crank it up to 4-5 to get the same volume.

'Red-Plating' is when the amp looses it's bias or the tubes are no longer able to draw a proper bias current.

It definitely sounds like you need new power tubes. That is the 1st place to start. I would stop playing it until you can get some new ones in the amp.

Then, if it still has the same problem, you may have a larger problem. I say 'May have,' because I have seen many new tubes that are bad right out of the box. Either way, if the new tubes does not fix the amp, I would take it to a tech if there is one near you.

Thanx dude

But I was fiddling with the amp and trying to find out where the problem might be and strangely enough, if I have it set on full power everything works fine.

It only behaves like this in tweed mode.

Any ideas ?

Thanx

I would still try some new tubes. The Tweed power setting will change the bias point of the tubes and they may be on the verge of failure.
If this doesn't help, then it may be fairly easy to figure out if this problem only happens in Tweed mode.
