Mesa Engineering Price List – SEPTEMBER 1984

I transcribed this from a painfully small scan of an original price sheet. Enjoy !!!! :D

Notice that the amp is never called a C+.

"Export Switch & Transformer (For All World Operation)...........$50

All World Operation.... Love that line.

Regarding the amp in general if they only knew!

That hardwood upcharge is like a swift kick in the balls.

I feel your pain. A $ 155 hardwood headshell in 84 equals $ 900 today. If the amps increased in sale price with the inflation of the cabinets, a hardwood combo would cost $ 9570.

I felt so odd pricing my amps out. On one hand, It's about what I paid for them each, but I could not believe how well they have held their original value. I mean really, how many 20 year old amps sell for the same amount as new 15+ years later. Today's market is a good bit higher, so forgive me for delving into the past when you could but them used for 84 pricing or less. In 2001 I had found a DRG 1X12 hardwood with the matching 1X12 Thiele. The shop, was owned by Richard Ray and he made me an offer of $ 2000 for both. I told him I would call him with a credit card as soon as I got home. It sold to a guy off the street who offered him
$ 3500. I knew then that the market would most likely hit the fan. A few months later, I got hosed on a DRG 1X12 hardwood for $ 1300. The guy sold it for $ 2000 instead with my payment in route. Ahh, the good old days....

I could see why the production numbers were so low. These amps were some serious money when people were making $ 15,000 a year in 1984.
This was most definitely pro equipment or an extravagant purchase for the common person.

Simul-EQ-Reverb-Hardwood-EV-12L-Flight Case - $ 1650
Simul-EQ-Reverb-Hardwood- $ 1330
Simul-EQ-Reverb-Vinyl Head - $ 1175

70 for an EV!!!!!!!!! The Collesiums are still expensive back then.

If only we could go back in time..... Man it would have been great to place an order for one of those back in the day.

Yeah it would have, but for a fully loaded simul/reverb/graphic/export/hardwood you'd be paying 1380 plus tax. 1500 was a SHITLOAD of money in '84. I didn't realize they were so expensive at the time. Adjusting for inflation that 1500.00 is 3084.00 in todays dollars, about what they're selling for now...

Ed , you keep coming up with these tantalizing nuggets of Boogie lore .

I doff my lid . 8) cat .

That's still not enough to justify the double prices here in Europe

I've never tried to justify any of my amp or guitar purchases, it's pointless.

Hi George,

To bad on the old Mesa Switcheroo to the MK III. They knew that they would make more profit on it. The MK III black dot started as early as February, 1985. The oldest C+ I have found was 4/85, so they were absolutely produced at the same time. I have pics of MK III # 15115 from 2/85, so if they started at 15001, they may have started in 1/85, or they could just produce them faster. I seriously doubt we will ever see a C+ after 14400 unless it was a one off. After five years of looking, I feel like I am hunting the Architeuthis.

The price list does have the SOB, Cabs and Diesel stuff, but it was so small I just focused on the IIC.

As usual, thanks again for your help on the guide and the wicker grille. Maybe someday I will be less of an unappreciative goober and take pics of the woodie head. Many thanks again for that missing link you have. I peek at it once in a while and use it as a reference for early visual identification of resistors and caps.

I saw six STR-416 6CA7's (very slightly used) go for $375 on Ebay the other day.
It was actually four Joey, six at that price would have been a very good deal!

Read the red print in the description.

I was about to pull the trigger, keep two of them, and sell the other four at cost to my Boogie Board friends. But they were bought while I was calculating the cost per tube.

Does anyone know how to figure out if my road case is the original one ordered from Mesa? Mine is branded "Sessions" on the top handle.

thanks,
Jamie
