I'm looking at getting a Mesa power amp but they don't appear to have the option to run in monoblock. If I get a 9090 or 100100, I could probably get away with just running one side but for instance, if I get a 5050; I'd probably have to run both side to get the volume I need.

Is there any way to run a 5050 in a monoblock configuration?? I need to run mono due to my rack setup (which involves looping gear and I don't trust your basic sound engineer to get my LR balances right  )

Thanks!

You only run 1 side of the amp. Turn the volume all the way down on the unused side. I do this with a 20/20 and have no problems with volume.

So there's no way to utilize both sides of the poweramp in a monoblock configuration?

If so, would a single side of a 5050 be enough for a very loud metal/punk band? I'm mainly having to compete with the bass player :s

I'd say it's loud enough, but why don't you just use it in Stereo then? Don't you have a stereo 4x12 cab or 2 4x12's or something?

I don't run stereo because of my rig setup. My speakers are able to as I have the Mesa Rectifier cab but I run 2 sounds simutaneously. One from the VG88 guitar system and one from my 2101 + other rack processors. These 2 signals are fed into an Electrix Repeater for looping purposes.
I'd rather have a mixed signal coming out for 2 reasons.
1. I run a subtle sound on the VG88 for punch and clarity purposes so there's a great volume difference between my main sound and this one but they sound great mixed. Hence I don't want to 'waste' half my rig powering a low volume sound (I hope this makes sense :? )
2. Because both sounds are fed into the Repeater, the live signal is separated L and R but when I output a recorded loop, the 2 are summed together (unless you manually set it not to). If everything is mono, levels are much more stable and life is much easier :)

If a 5050 is plenty loud, I'll probably go with that and run one side most of the time. I just don't like having only half my cab running for most of the time when I could be running it all
