Running different impedance cabs w/ a stereo power amp...?

I am under the impression that a stereo power amp actually puts out 2 separate loads, so i'll be able to run an 8 ohm cab and a 16 ohm cab out of each side and won't have to worry about cutting the ohms in half...right?

if the poweramp's got appropriate impedance outputs you're fine, the two stereo channels should be completely independent.
