Was having some trouble with my Roadster the other day.

Turned it on, started making a horrible static/crackle noise, played for about 30 minutes, then it just completely cut off. Still powers on, but there's no sound whatsoever coming from the amp.

Pretty sure it's a faulty pre-amp tube, but just trying to get some feed-back on it.

What also sucks, is that this problem has happened to both me and my other guitar player. He has a Triple Rec less than 7 months old and my Roadster is less than 5 and we both have had this problem. His happened to be a faulty preamp tube, that's what makes me think mine is as well.

What's the deal? Is Mesa putting shoddy tubes into their rigs? Where's the quality they promise?

Could be a preamp valve like you've said. Sometimes I wonder if the amp was delivered properly to the dealer sometimes. Mine works just fine...

Mine came straight from the factory and I was the one to open the box... no tube issues or issues in general with the amp.

Well...apparently it's a resistor problem.

Anyone had an issue with this?

My guitar tech said to make sure the amp is plugged into a power conditioner, but it is; into a Furhman.

Sigh...

I took one of those apart one time just to see what exactly it was doing to the power...

I took it apart and there was not a single thing inside of it that "cleaned" power. It was literally a normal power strip, in rack form.

I think that is why Monster shows pictures of what is inside of theirs.

Mesa certainly has quality, don't worry. There was a release about using Chinese branded power tubes in position 3 and 5. I've found that JJ's work fine in those positions as well. I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell you why those 2 spots are temperamental, but maybe this could help. Good luck!

I have had my 3Ch Dual Rec do that to me twice in the last 6 months... Both times it was the last preamp tube in the chain in the V5 postion... the phase splitter... Replaced that and it was perfect.
