If you want a high gain modern metal tone, do not use. If you want an AC/DC Marshall tone, they do a great job. I used mine ten minutes and now I'm going to sell them........

Don't have a 4X12 and these tubes are not at all the face melting tone I want. Actually Doug at dougstubes lied to me and told me I could get a Killswitch Engage tone with them. Then I asked if I could send them back for a $30 credit and he could still sell them as new being that I used them ten minutes or less. He said no after I spent over $200 in 2 weeks from him. I won't buy tubes from him again.

Interesting, I have never had issues getting any tone with any tube. I have said this before and will say it again....people spend WAY too much time worrying about tubes and not enough time playing and turning knobs on their amp.

I just got a passable Killswitch tone using a Matchless Lightning and a Maxon Sonic Distortion.....

You should know that you won't get face melting tone with an open back. Cab and speaker selection have WAY greater impact on tone than tubes. I don't think you can blame Doug either. No tube vendors that I know of would accept a return with reasons other than defective product.

There's no TUBE that can GIVE YOU 'Killswitch' tone. Let me put it another way - there's no amp that will have 'killswitch' tone with one brand of power tubes but not another. Maybe different nuances - but there's no 'killswitch' tube. Tubes serve only to enhance or accentuate what the amp is doing. It's not the fault of the tubes. Or Doug.

If your amp can't do it with one set, it can't do it with another. If it can, it can.

I loved my Road King through my RK 2x12. Got a Mesa 4x12 halfback, now I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE it! You wouldn't be able to pry it from my hands :). It made a bigger difference than I thought It would.

People need to quit thinking that the right tubes will make their life easier.

I think the internet has spawned OCD in many guitarists.

If the amp works use it...just knowing how to play a song properly will make up for any tonal variation from the original you are trying to cop.
