Hello everyone,
I wanted to put some new tubes into my Ace, because - like many others - I'm experiencing a harsh sound in the 2nd channel.
Now the thing is, I found a pair of NOS Siemens RFT EL34 tubes (matched), can they be used in the poweramp or could there occur a problem?
Somebody told me, even if they are matched, Mesa tubes are matched differently, and the best thing is, use Mesa tubes. So, of course I'm hesitating and don't know should I buy those NOS Siemens, as for Mesa Siemens STR 450, I can't get them here in Europe anywhere. I haven't found any musicstore which has those STR 450s.
I'm particularly interested in those, as I thought they could perhaps tame a little bit the harshness.
The only store I found had similar tubes to this Mesa 450s is thetubestore.com, but as you know now, they have only NOS Siemens RFT EL34 matched tubes.
Can I go safly eith them?
As I was reading that others had similar problems, I also wanted to look into the preamp tubes. So I wanted to try out a Tung-sol 12ax7 in V1, but what about V2, can I put for example a Jan Philips 5751 in this position? And what about those Cathode Follower positins V3 and V4, what would be a good alternative for Shuguang 12ax7 in this positions? Could perhaps JJ 12ax7 work on these poitions? And what do I have to keep in mind for position V5? Any 12ax7 or can here for example work a Jan Philips 5751 too?
And what about Svetlana 12ax7 in V1 or V2, has anyone tried those?
If anyone can help or has any information regarding this tubes, please help!
