Just swapped out the tubes in my 5150. I had a bad preamp tube so I just decided to replace them all.
First I did the preamp. after some experimentation I ended up with a TS in V1, JJ in V2, C9 in V3 and V5, and an EH in V4. I dig it.
It had JJ's and LPS's in it before and I wasnt thrilled with it.
The power section had Ruby 6L6GCM-STR's in it. I believe theyre the Shuguang tube that mesa uses - i think. I replaced them with a quad of JJ 6L6GC's. The amp really warmed up. Its a bit stiffer for leads but not by much. The overall tone improvement was worth it. Plus Im hoping theyll loosen up abit as they break in.
So now the amp is quieter, tighter, more colorful sounding, and all around better sounding. It sounds beautiful with my mark III.
Can I get a Hell Yeah
