So I went to my local store today to check out some amps. They had a brand new Fender Super-Sonic and a Mesa Rectoverb 50 watt combo.

The SuperSonic kicked its ass, but not for the reasons you'd think, if I'm correct.

The Mesa lacked any character on the clean channel. It also rattled like mad with the reverb on, and certain notes were easily twice as loud compared to other notes. Am I correct in thinking it's just in need of a full tube replacement? Would bad tubes explain why the clean channel sounded sterile?

I had a ROV 50 combo and a Single Rec head for a while. The clean channel was usable , nothing spectacular. That rattling with the reverb was probably a faulty tank. Also, if there were issues with varying loudness, I'd say a new set of tubes is needed.
