So I guess this is the best place to ask this:

All rectos have the sag/feel that as far as I know is unique to rectos. Its poweramp sag along with a different kind of compression from the amp right? So far I love that feel, to me it just feels right in an amp. Its not like turning the gain down in an amp to get that lack of compression but its its own thing.

Anyways, is that sag/feel in other high gain amps? Like can you get that feel out a stilletto or other kind of mesa? Or do other higher end companies have specific amps with this feel?

Im curious and want to know because even though Ill prolly buy myself a recto soon I want to exhaust all other options :)

The Electra Dyne has a similar sort of feel on the Vintage Hi mode but it isn't exactly high gain like a Recto. The clean channel on the Recto feels stiff while the Electra Dyne has a lot of bend and snap to it. I don't know that any other high gain head has quite the same vibe as a recto. I was jamming on mine today and loving it!

You're right that the sag you're referring to is pretty unique to the rectifier line. Honestly, though, the feel of how rectifiers play is what I hate the most about them. I was originally dead set on getting a road king before I played it (and many other rectifiers, many times) and found out I liked the way the Mark V responded way better. And I liked the sound way better, so it was a pretty easy decision. For me personally, I find the sagginess limiting to my playing, and it's somehow oddly stiff feeling even with all of that sag. I've found from personal experience that the 2 channel rectos respond better to my playing. It still has the sag thing going on, but it seems a little more controllable for me. IMO

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the Bogner Uberschall I tried had a similar feel the the rectos - pretty loose and flabby, and you kind of have to try pretty hard with your picking to keep it tight. The one I tried was a Rev Blue.

Well Ive played a 3ch dual rec through a roadking 212 and that was pretty cool but felt really different than the mini rec through a normal recto 212.

I liked both but the mini rec I preferred.

Funny about the elctradyne too. I think some reccomended me to try out that amp. Ill deff have to give that a go.

And the uberschall is a deff no go for me :( lack of cleans and 150w plus the price makes it totally unreasonable for me :|

Like right now Im playing a 6534+ amd it feels way too stiff and tight as well as I always find myself boosting the sh*t out the low mids for the sound I want

It has a clean channel, and it's 120W not 150. I agree though, they're a bit pricey.

The newest revision with 4 KT88s?

The one at my local store is the newest revision too. Twin jet I think?

With an EQ pedal and/or boost/overdrive pedal, you can tweak the sagginess to some extent...

Well I own both a TS9 and MxR 10 band EQ which is good I guess

But im guessing you can only take away sag and not add it into amps that dont have it

It may sound weird, but I find that some of the "Recto Sag" comes from the Recto cab itself.

Yes, definitely helps with the sponginess and extra low end. I played with one for less than a week, before trading it in with my dealership for a Stiletto cab instead... 8)

Well last week I played the mini rec and the 5153 mini.

The mini rec though a mrshall T75 loaded 212
The 5153 mini through a mesa vertical V30 2x12.

The mini rec was not impressive and it kind of clicked on how loud enev the mino rec at 10w has tp be to spund optimal. I blame alot on the speaker cabinet though

The 5153 mini was very impressive. Even the crunch channel gets really metal but in a different way than the lead channel. Cleans on both amps were pretty good. Mini 5153 no joke nails the guitar tone from Triviums In Waves album. (because that was a 5150 throguh two mesa 412s) but besides that the tone was so close it was crazy. Also stoopid loud too.

Im gonna make it back out with my thiele cab and give each one another fair shot but if it tuens out the same way as this time Im either getting an axefx or both amps

Why would you play that Mini Recto through a Marshall cab with T75 speakers is beyond me. YUCK!!!

I get awesome tones with my mini and the 112! played the 5150 also at low volumes. I liked the red channel but i think the mesa mini pushed cleans sounds pretty awesome and the cleans sound good also, yeah that marshall cabs speakers blow. gotta turn the presence below 12 o clock and if your playing low turn some bass up and cut the mids some, get some warmer thick tone. I dug it the first time I played the mini rec. when you hit the 25 watt it gets pretty massive sounding!

Well the store didnt have any V30 cabs so thats why (I hate marshall cabs with a huge passion)

I love it the first time thats why I know theres still hope :)

yeah give it a little time the knobs are super responsive, just a little changes the tone. gain at 3 gets nice and thick even better with JJ 84's in there

I know some people like, even love the Rectos (including the Recto Minis) with T75 speakers. But IMO, they are horrible combination. You are even better off with the Marshall cab with V30s...

Well Ive got a thiele 112 with a 200w EV speaker, such a nice cab. Ill try the mini rec though that and re-evaluate :)
