I was talking with a buddy of mine over the weekend. He was going on and on about how unreliable rectifiers are. He used to work at Guitar Center and shared how one time he was demoing a TR for a customer and the amp caught on fire. He then also shared about how he had a touring musician come in all the time and pick up 2 TR at a time because while on tour his amps always crapped out. So, I'm curious as to what you guys think about this? Do you agree that they are unreliable or do you disagree and find Boogies to be extremely reliable. I've generally heard that they are very reliable and stand the test of time. Thanks in advance guys!

I've been through 10+ Boogies over 6 years so far...ones went bad due to a bad capacitor, but the rest have served me GREAT!

I've never had a problem at all...I feel much better on stage with them than with other brands when it comes to reliability.

Your buddy sounds like a retard and the dude who was burning through two Rectos at a time sounds like a made up story. Tell your friend not to smoke so much weed... it burns brain cells.

I've had 7 Mesas to date and the only problem I've ever had that wasn't tube related was a failed power switch on a 20 year old Mark III. I soldered in a new one and had it back up and running that same day.

I've been playing Recto's for almost 10 Years now with nothing more than tube related issues. Mesa makes a rock solid amp (no pun intended).

I've been gigging for over 20 years and have never seen an amp burst into flames. I've seen some smoke-shows though LOL.

If Recto's were bursting into flames I'm sure it would be all over the Internet, especially YouTube.

+1

The fact he works at GC confirms he is a retard.

I have 2 very good friends who did a world tour and then the US 3 times after that, and the only trouble they ever had were the footswitches dying. Hell one of them had a full beer tip over on top of the amp mid-set and all that was required was some new power tubes. Fired right up.

Mesa FTW.

Very reliable. I have a buddy that has has been gigging with his same triple rec for over 12 years with only one bad capacitor that went bad 6 months after he bought it new.

HAHA, I assumed I would get these kinds of responses. This wasn't the first time I've heard this guy rant about Boogies. He plays Madison and is on their nuts. He was telling me the other night that one of the reason's boogies cost so much is that they use certain parts which cost more, whereas he Madison just use whatever and so they're cheaper. I frankly wanted to slap him. But his girl just dumped him so I let it slide. But ya, this guy has no clue. A mutual friend of ours always plays through a TR but for some reason it shorted out on him so he sent it to the shop and he had a show coming up and needed an amp so this guy offered to loan his Madison to him. I later offered him to use my Roadster, which he did, and he LOVED it.

Mesas are some of the most reliable amps out there, but they (like all other mass-production makers) use crap tubes... they have to, there is no choice with new-production tubes and the supply of NOS is too unpredictable for anyone other than a basement builder turning out a few dozen amps a year. Any time a Mesa or any other decent amp dies/smokes/"is unreliable", suspect the tubes first.

I *have* seen a couple of modern Marshalls where the circuit board actually caught fire, though...

I never heard that SOLDANO caught on fire :D :D :D ,any one knows the model equivlants of soldano to mark v.Thanx.

I've seen a Soldano catch on fire. I poured some lighter fluid on it and lit a match and BAM!

As much as I hated the Single Rec I owned for 10 years, I only replaced the tubes at my own expense. No failure of anything, so I can backup the fact that they are pretty reliable amps.

so very reliable, mine fell off the trolley i was pushing my amp to a venue on and it was fine. i bought it second hand a year ago and have no idea whether the previous owner ever got it serviced or anything but it runs like a champion

I fail to understand how you can own something for 10 years that you hated, talk about disturbing!

The amp was a gift from my folks, thus the reason I kept it for so long. I felt horrible ever thinking of getting rid of it. After dicking with it for so long and not being able to get the amp where I wanted, I finally gave in and got rid of it. Looking back, it was the best decision I ever made. I wish I had ended that nightmare much earlier.
