I'm not having much luck with this Recto Pre. :(

Should the Recto Pre make any noise even if nothing is plugged into it? There's a fairly constant noise plus the odd splutter. Also if I crank channel 2 on full volume and turn the master live volume past 9.30 say, it can start to squeal and feedback. Microphonic. Even the switches appear to be microphonic.

Bad tubes?? When the levels on the preamp are set more conservatively, the squealing isn't an issue but the noise is still there etc. but I can still get plenty of volume by cranking my power amp. I would've thought when nothing is plugged in, the preamp would mute the output in some form. Maybe not.

With the gain up past 12:00 you will get hiss and gain noise, when I had nothing plugged into the front and had the gain up the unit was microphonic because of the high gain, this is pretty normal although you may have a bad tube.
There is no way I could run any high gain amp or preamp without noise reduction like an ISP or Hush...no way.
