There's an argument going on on another forum and I'd like it if some of you could add some clarity to the issue...

The debate is that one member claims that Mesa changed the V30s they were using in 2003. He states that 2003 and prior Mesa used 70w V30s and that starting in 2004 they switched to 60w V30s, and that the 60w versions sound different than the previous 70w version.

The counter argument is that there are no differences, and that the 60w/70w rating is a marketing thing... probably to avoid the insinuation that Marshall's 70w V30s are somehow superior to Mesa's 60w V30s, and that in 2003/2004 Mesa said "**** it" and listed them as 60w on the website, even though it appears that they're still labeling the cabs as 140w/280w.

Comments?

Anyone have a post 2003 Recto cab with the power rating on the back of it they can post a picture of?

Mesa Cabs are still rated at 70 Watts per speaker for a total of 280 watts. Mesa did throw out some confusion when people started buying the orange cabs because they said the v30's sounded better because they were the normal V30's. Honestly it is give or take, but yes i have both pre and post 4x12's and they are both rated at 280.

They as in Mesa?

Or They as in the people buying Orange cabs?

As far as I know both Mesa and Orange are using similar V30s... the large dustcap version that isn't the normal market version.

Not at all, i mean all cabs will sound slightly different depending on broken in stage, but in general they sound the same.

Also, since you own both pre and post 2003 cabs do you feel there's any real tonal difference between the two?

Meaning mesa has always used the 70 watt speakers.
