At long last, I finally got a Triple rectifier. I have been using ADA rack equipment hooked up in stereo into a Recto 4x12.

Before I power up and serenade my neighbors with molten Mesa metal...

I have a wiring question which is a no-brainer to you more experienced Mesa guys/gals. I did a search of the board but could not find a definitive answer.

The recto cab is 4ohms stereo. Is it correct to connect the two 4 ohm output of the triple recifier to the 4 ohm stereo inputs of the cab? Will I get the stereo effect? Will there be a difference in volume?

What happens if I were to connect one 8 ohm output from the head into one of the 4 ohm inputs of the cab?

What is the common practice in hooking up a recto head to the recto cab?

Thanks everyone.

The Triple Rec isn't a stereo amp, so you won't get a stereo signal out of it. The four ohm outputs on the head are wired in parallel, so connecting one to each four ohm input on the cab will actually give you a two ohm impedance. Don't do that.

If you connect the eight ohm output into one of the four ohm inputs, you will only be powering two of the speakers.

Connect the eight ohm output from the head into the eight ohm input on the cab.

Seconded

Stereo tones require stereo power amps, which is not your typical amp head. Much of the rack world is, though.

Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately, I played a gig with the 4ohms on the head plugged into the 4ohms in the cabinet.

I have it plugged in correctly now.

Welcome to the forum!

Do yourself a favor & download the owners manual for that amp. There is a section on speaker hookup and impedances, as well as a complete explanation of all the aspects of that amp, as well as some interesting stories on tone and tubes.
