Which modes would you say have less gain than a stock JCM800?

I remember reading that the Raw channel has less gain than the Pushed even though by the labeling and channels you'd think different. Any truth to this?

Clean (obviously) and Clean Pushed.

Gain levels go basically like this from low to high

Clean>Clean Pushed>Raw>Vintage>Modern

All have different flavours and tones.

Clean pushed sounds killer. Shove a good OD on that channel and it's ACDC all day, plus plenty more. I've cascaded two OD pedals, MI Audio's Tube Zone and Crunch Box and I can tell you, one of the best drive sounds I've heard. This is through a Rectoverb with Winged C EL34's.

Experiment.

I use a Mini Rectifier and a Rectoverb 25, both at fairly low gain (11:00-noon) in Vintage mode. They do classic rock very well and take gain pedals well. For more bite I run an OD808 into the gain channel. For smooth leads I run a BB Pre. For all-out gain I run both.
