I have two BSS AR116 active DI boxes and one Senn e609 mic. I am haing trouble recording my setup. I run a whole bunch of effects into a Boogie Simul Satellite and a Ampeg B2 simultaneously... the DI boxes make the distortion from the pedals very very harsh, and I have only one mic. I know typically DI boxes are mixed with the mic signal, with mic signal dominating, but I dont have that luxury. How can I get an acurate tone with the equipment that I have? How do you mic two amps with one mic?

You don't !

Record one amp miked, than the other one miked too = 2 miked amps signals.

Now record one DI signal from each amp = 2 DI signals.
You have 4 recorded tones.
Choose the one you like more or mix them until find paradise

i dont want to track each seperatly... this is for jams and such. thats why i chose to DI both amps and mic one, but that still doesnt work too well. Far micing the bass amp (3ft) seems to be a bit better, but there is too much bass, not enough mids, and everything is harsh...like a super scoop mids...

Jamming
Buy another mic, ebay sell shure 57 for a few bucks.Miked the two amps closely to the speaker, slightely away from the center.
This is the best way.

If you're jamming why are you using 2 amps?
And if you're jamming why do you want to mic them ?I mean,if you're recording the jam,why the hell are you recording the 2 amps in one track ?Record them separetely and do the mix.

they arent being recorded to one track, one amp per track. i meant that i wasnt gonna record one amp, then re-mic the other amp and record a second track. that would be good if i had an actualy song to record and if i was gonna multirtrack it. but this is for spontaneous stuff, and to capture the sound of my setup.

i have an e609, which i use on the boogie. whats a good bass mic? thinking of a senn 421. possibly the original non II.

i use two amps because thats the sound i like.

You like them at the same time playing all your stuff or do you use 1 for rhythm and 2 for leads?

Anyway best way is mic them. No DIs.
I've always use shure sm 57.
There's no such a thing like what mic is better doing this or that?
You can record your amps with bass drum mic,the mic doesn't know the differences between amp and bass drum ! Mics record frequencies no this and that.
