First post, so I hope it's a good one. I've been playing Boogies since 1989, but I just got a Mark V. Pick your own brains here. Let's getting a feeling.

So this is what we have to work with:

1.) Boogie Mark V
2.) Fender Cab 4X12 cab with Eminence speakers c. 1990
3.) Avid 11 Rack
4.) Siegmund Missing Link "preamp" (unity gain/tube buffer) http://www.siegmundguitars.com/ML.html

Okay, what do you feel is the best setup for recording? Let's say, 90% of the effects you run are going on channel 1 (you're not limited to that, but let's just say). So, do you run the 11 rack through the FX loops and utilize the preamp as a "postamp" in some fashion, rounding out any digital garble you get from the 11 rack, even after going through the FX loop?

And let's say you're on channel 1 and you want to run a high gain sound from the 11 rack out to your speakers. Do you set the knobs on channel 1 to be as flat as you can get them, and then mess with the EQ inside the 11 rack, or do you reverse it, and EQ through the 11 rack only?

In short, there are multiple ways. If this is your rig, how do you make it work to get the best analogue sound you can get, considering the FX loop on the Mark V is going to be a little squirrely? Do tell. I want to hear from the best minds. ;)

It kind of sounds like you want to use the 11r with the "4 cable method" assuming it can support it???

Basically what that means, is you plug your guitar in to the input of the 11r.
The effects send of the 11r goes in to the input of the Mkv.
The effects send of the Mkv then goes to the Effects return on the 11r
The output of the 11r goes to the Effects return on the Mkv.

This means you can run effects in front of the Mkv and in the effects loop, or assuming you can switch the effects loop of the 11r on and off, you can use a full amp model on the 11r and just use the Mkv as a nice tube power amp for the times you want a really different sound. This will work much better than using an amp model in to the pre amp of the Mkv.

I used to do this with a Line 5 POD HD500 and my 5150. But I sold that setup to buy my Mark V.

Mike the MK V, or record the 11 direct.
You almost never record tracks wet, because once you print effects, you can't change anything. Effects happen during mixing.
Four cable with an 11 Rack should be super-fun-time live, tho'.
Good luck!
