Hiya, I have a 2-channel DR and all I run is a delay pedal in the loop and I have that sit on top of my amp. Mainly cause I like to tweak the knobs around on some songs to make some really weird effects.

Having it on top of my amp means for me to turn the delay on and off I have to go there and hit it with my hand. Or if I ran longer cables so it would be upfront, then id have to be kneeling down on stage to mess with the settings. Both are things id rather not have to do.

So does the fxloop switch just bypass the loop but leave the loop active master usable? Or when you use the switch, is it the same as going behind the amp and just turning the knob to bypass, making the loop active master have no control over the amp?

loop active master is still useable. i have a dr 3 channel set up with only a delay. i too leave it on top of my amp. turn your fx loop on in the back and switch it on amd off with your dr footswitch.
