I bought a reissue Mullard tube to try out in my DC-5 to see if I liked the tone of the Mullard and all is well tone wise.

I had a look in the back of the amp at the tubes when I powered up because one of the other JJ tubes was faulty and while I was looking I noticed that the Mullard lit up quite brightly and far quicker than the JJ's I was just wondering if this is normal?

The sound out of the tube is perfect,I was just wondering if this is a bad sign or normal for different makes of tubes to heat up differently.

Thanks for the reply Shredd.

I just wasnt sure it it was ready to crap out on me and I didnt want to be out of time to return it for a replacement.

FWIW Edward recommended the CV4024 (I think thats the number off the top of my head) and it transformed my amp.My DC-5 was very dark and the Mullard cleaned that right up and now Im totally happy with the result.

Is the V1 slot the best place for the Mullard? the rest of my preamp tubes are JJ's.

Yeah Shredd that is the tube I meant.I thought it was a reissue as Im not too clued up on NOS stuff.

I just bought myself a pair of unused Mullard M8162 NOS valves (ECC81, 12AT7WA, CV4024) off Ebay for $8 which I reckon is not a bad price so I am gonna try them out too and see if they improve my tone any.

Any suggestions what slots to try them out in? I have that CV4024 I mentioned then these new ones and a few new JJ's

I put the Mullard CV4024 in the reverb slot of my MKIVa which calls for a 12AT7. My reverb never sounded sooo good! I'm really enjoying the Sylania 12AX7's I just got also.

What slots would you recommend for the Mullards in my DC Shredd?

I have one in the V1 slot and it sounds great so should I put the 12at7's in V4 and V5 and the 12ax7's in the V2 and V3?

Or do you have a better recommendation?

I have a reissue Mullard CV4024 and got 2 NOS Mullard CV4024's as well.

I have a bunch of JJ (ecc 83s)12ax7's and a JJ 12at7 that I have in the PI.

Thats about it,the amp is sounding real good to me on both channels but there is always room for improvement!

Thats great Shredd,I can be a terrible tinkerer and cant make my mind up which way I like the best(not just amps, anything at all  )

Always the Star for anything tube related 8)

The CV4024 isnt a reissue my mistake its from 85 but the other NOS ones are older still.

Thanks again Shredd I cant wait now to try it out!

But, am I missing something???? Did New Sensor actually make a CV4024 re-issue?? (question directed at Mavguy or Timbrewolf)
...dum-dee-dum... gazing up at the stars, when suddenly  the Bat Beacon, shining above Gotham City!! Quick Robin, to the Batpole!!

Uh - yeah - CV4024 - no re-issue. No New Sensor M8162, nor Mullard 12AT7WA. The real deal is plentiful, and quite cheap (relatively speaking), so there's no need to try to steal the label and put it on an inferior tube as a means of creating the kind of cognitive dissonance that pays off in big bucks for the third-rate tube company ... I mean, reissue it.

By the way, the common '80s CV4024 sounds different from the '60s or '50s Mullard version; it is much fatter/thicker. Syrupy sweet, yet quite clear. Mmmmm :D The real Mullard factory employees had the kind of pride in workmanship, to the very end, that is inspirational.

Top advice again Shredd.

The amp is sounding wonderful. The lead channel is exactly where I wanted it to be and the clean channel just sparkles.

Cheers.
