I have a mark 5 combo and a 2 x 12 recto cabinet (8 ohms)
When unplugging the speaker of the Mark 5, i connect the recto cab to the same input as the Mark 5 speaker (8ohms)

I also noticed there are 2 x 4 ohm inputs on the back of the mark 5 which says: 2 x 8 ohm cabs. Should I be pluggin my recto cab into the 4 Ohm input if there is only 1 cab? What difference does this make - can I do any damage here?

thanks!

Combo should be in the 8 OHM(Combo) jack and the 8 OHM Recto cab in the other 8 OHM jack. I had the same question and was told this by the dealer and Mesa both.

Again... look at the 4 ohm speaker jacks. It reads "use with two 8 ohm cabs".

I don't mean to be a dick but I can't believe guitar players have problems with this. Plus, you have to read the manual.

Two 8 ohm loads (doesn't matter how many speakers are in the cabs) added together is one 4 ohm load. So if you use 2 8 ohm cabs, plug them into the 4 ohm jacks.

I know what you guys are saying and can't say I completely disagree, I'm just telling you what the dealer John at Main Street Music and what the Trent, the Mesa Rep told me. I had as it turned out tube issues the day I received my Combo and it was a question I asked both dealer and the Mesa Rep... that is the answer they both gave me. It'd been quite a number of years since I had to deal with load issues much less an amp with only 2 8 OHM and 2 4 OHM jacks... and wanted to make sure.

So if I've given incorrect info, I apologize, but I came by it honestly.
