I have someone that offered to sell me their Mesa Maverick head. Currently I have an F-50 head and have loved it, but it's a lil too thick for most songs that my cover band is doing. Is the Maverick a very versatile amp? Can it do heavy rock sounds? Does it sound just as good with humbuckers as single coils? Are their any known issues with the amp? Thanks in advance :)

I loved my Maverick and is one of the amps I miss occasionally. It could definitely do hard rock, but in it's own way. It isn't a high gain monster, but liquidy smooth with just enough bite to cut through and say "it's me here, listen!". I had an issue with the footswitch I had for mine not always working, but I haven't heard of any other issues with them other than being addictive. The Maverick, to me, is a more versatile lss, with a little more rock available. It sounded just as good with humbuckers as sc's to me.

I had a maverick 2x12 a few years ago, it was a really nice well built amp. The cleans were great similar to a fender twin and the distortion was nice to. The maverick didn't strike me as a Hard Rock amp, I would say i is more a country/rock amp, unless you are into boosting your gain with a pedal which I am not into. I agree it isn't a high gain monster.

What a heavy beast! I really liked the Maverick series. The controls were simple enough but could cover a wide range. I owned an F series amp too. I would say that the F series does heavier stuff better but I liked the Maverick better anyway. Its the only Boogie I used a boost with, but with an OD pedal it would get into metal territory.

I agree with what the other posters are saying.

I like mine with both my strat and my gibson 335. No single coil/humbucker bias; i think it sounds good for both.

No issues that I have run into.
