Hello all, I have a used Road King II I bought recently, I have noticed that removing both rectifier tubes improved my tone significantly. It seems that even though I was on diode for all channels that the rectifier light on the front was always on (strangly, using all 6 power amp tubes both rectifier tube lights and the diode light stayed on when the manual states it should be just the doides on).

Is it dangerous to the amp to operate with no rectifier tubes permenantly? I keep all channels set to diode so both tubes should be removed from the signal chain anyway. Also, is there a problem with my amp seeing as how the lights are constantly opposing what the manual says and what my settings are for rectification? I had it retubed in both the pre and power amp section and it's sounding good, Im wondering if this is maybe just a mechanical error with the lighting....

Many thanks

You can remove both rectifier valves, but make sure you switch everything over to diode tracking. However, it shouldn't affect the tone if you have switched over to diode tracking, even if the rectifier valves are installed. Oh well, whatever works for you is best... 8)

I thought it shouldn't make a difference having them removed. Perhaps my recto tracking switch is broke

The linkage lights and the recto-indicator lights are attached to a mini PCB board, each.....I bet you the ones that indicate linkage fell out of place or got a little loose. Happened to me...see here:

My bet is that's what's going on...you'll have to take a look inside though.
