has anyone tried quad or studio pre into the return of the fx loop of a dual recto or roadster/roadking? i'm courious to hear how it sounds.

I used both my Studio and Quad into the fx return of my Tremoverb head for quite some time with great results. The tone is pretty much what you would expect from the Mark series but it doesn't really have any of that Recto thumpy low end. Still heavy and cool, just different though.

My racktifier just got delivered today but I can't check it out until I get home on Sunday, so I'm anxious to see how it sounds as well as how the preamps sound through it.

i thought poweramp played a great role in recto sound... so are you saying it is not like this?

No, the power amp is very important but the preamp section is equally (if not more) important too. Plugging a studio or quad into the recto fx return will keep that distinct Mark voicing but there won't be much "recto" in there. Perhaps the lack of the extremely thumpy lows is due to the recto's fx loop not being 100% wet :? But, it still sounds GREAT.
