Hey all, I just went through a long year of buying a trading gear to wind up with a Mark IVB head and Half Back 212 cab (I will soon add a 1-12 EV Thiele cab for a complete compact rig) but was wondering what you guys do to coax a nice marshally tone out of your Mark amps with outboard gear. I been through many boogies and peavey's but mainly boogies since I had a long history with peavey and was well aware what they had to offer.

I like the way I have my Mark IV set and I don't want to change it to compromise the tones that i like for a tone that I might not need very often or even use live. I also don't want to add a second amplifier regardless of reasoning. I have owned multiple amps before and I understand the benefits but I don't have the space or desire to own a multiple amp rig.

So this is what I have in mind to run into the Effects Return of the Mark IV- JMP-1 preamp, some sort of modeling preamp(VAMP2, POD, BOSS GT-X, etc), Soldano pre, ADA MP1. Also, it could be a pedal that does marshall (Soldano GTO, Marshall pedals, etc).

A bit of reality: no more racks as they require an external SOMETHING whether it be a midi controller, midi cable, adapter, foot pedal, etc and is part of the reason i went to the simplicity of head/cab setup for my main rig.

I own a Bad Monkey OD but I don't think it cuts the mustard for providing me with a good marshally tone (I am not saying it's bad but i don't think it would be useful in the application i want).

The best british tone i had was when I had an 80's Laney AOR PRO series with a Peavey Rockmaster preamp slaved into the effects return.

Please do not respond with the obvious - IE "just get a marshall(ly) amp."

Thanks!

Greg

I just bought something I've owned in the past to take on a double duty: something that does the Marshall tone is spades and something that provides me with 24 bit effects for my Triaxis or Mark IV.

The Peavey Tubefex Analog preamp hybrid 24 bit effects processor.

The Analog preamp section is really the bread and butter of the whole deal but for the few times I desire effects it isn't worth it for me to invest in something like a Gforce or G System or even a G major for JUST effects.

I got a really great package deal that I couldn't turn away and will actually nearly give me the Tubefex for free when all is said and done.

The Crunch tube preamp on the Tubefex gives a great JCM 800 vibe but unfortunately I couldn't get the other lead channels (Lead and Ultra) to sound great so I ditched the preamp when I bought my first Triaxis. Now that I want a good Marshall vibe I know the Tubefex will fit the bill for cheap and I won't have to worry about buying an effects processor either.

Even if I decide it isn't right for me, this time around anyway, i will be making money on the deal so it's a win win.

I've been doing better at evaluating gear instead of getting impulsive about selling so I hope to give this a better more fair chance. This won't be my main tone generator so I definitely see it as being a keeper.
