Mark III blue stripe here loaded head, 2 thiele/EV cabs.Last year I pulled the str415 sylvannias out, and installed the str 442/454. Also swapped spax7a out of V1, and mesa ECC83 in V2 and V3, installed 3 GT12AX7M. Liked it alot...
last night I found my stash of 3 RCA 12AX7A from mid 60's, installed in V1,V2,V3, and stuck in the 4 sylvannia 415's.....
The clean in excellent, chimey, warm... The crunch was surprisingly, well, crunchy. Good mid responce. The lead was full and round. ULTRA QUIET..
They're all staying there for awhile anyway... Great gain in those RCA's, much more than I thought...And the familiar 415 tone is ALL there. I may have to find another set to keep around, mine are the light blue label.
RCA's in a Boog = Great Tone!
ax.

Ditto on those RCA's.

I have 2 7025's in my MKIII, along with a Telefunken in V1. I have a "plain ol'" RCA 12AX7 for the PI...JAN Phillips 7581A's are providing the power.

The cleans now are the best I've heard my amp do

Yeah, with this new tube layout, I found a setting I like with my LP Custom. Here it is....
Vol1-3.5 pulled
treb- 4 pulled
bass- 2 pulled
mid- 3.5 pulled
master-6.5
lead drive- 6 pulled
lead master-2 pulled
presence-6
reverb-9
no EQ
This setting lets me dig for the gain, but cleans up well with guitar vol. My new blues setting...Subtle change from R1 clean, R2 rhythm, and lead....
