I think that the best result you could hope for is a blown fuse, worst case could be serious damage. I really wouldn't try it!
 
I read the OP means the red rotary switch would be easily moved, and being red might tempt the unwary..
But I gotta say as in nature, "red" usually means danger etc, so someone with some smarts would hopefully not be enticed to play.
Impossible to predict what switching different inputs to the p/tranny would do,but results could range from quick and not catastrophic, to slow/quick and very terminal, hopefully to device and not user.
Leave well enough alone methinks..

yeah, I also got a little ritual when I setup, and part of it is verify settings of the back end, esp the MkIII, with the R2 vol knob being so damn sensitive..
On my Mk 1 I've actually hardwired the voltage selector for 240v, and in the unlikely event of it's sale it can easily get re-instated.
 
I dont think you could know for sure without trying and I definitely would NOT recommend that!!!! It may depend on the amp condition. The power tranny and caps/diodes etc steps up the mains supply by a fixed ratio (depending on switch position) then converts to d.c. So if its designed to produce an HT supply for power tubes of say 440v dc from a 110V ac supply, it would give 960v from a 240v supply if the switch wasn't changed to suit. The current drawn by the amp etc would be more than double which is why I think the fuse would blow. But all fuses take time to blow, and tube amps use a slow-blo fuse, so the amp components would see those doubled voltages and currents for a short time. Often components will stand overloads for a short period but not always. Electrolytic caps have a maximum voltage they can withstand and age with time, so depending on condition they may be ok or may literally go bang before the fuse blows. Similarly tubes may fail and at the increased voltage that would very probably take out other parts on the board. Basically the doubled voltage would find the weakest part of the amp. Hopefully the fuse but I wouldn't be very confident of that.
 
I was thinking more that the tranny secondaries might give out first..
But yeah, not a project for the faint hearted..
It's to sort or thing you'd see on Mythbusters..LOL
