There is a mod that is widely available and very popular among Mark III owners which creates a volume control for the second channel--I believe by utilizing the hole drilled for the reverb knob on the back. Do a search for 'Rhythm 2 mod.'

As far as the effect your talking about with the lead channel, I have noticed that with my red stripe Mark III but I've ignored that since right now I'm not really using the amps first two channels since the clean ain't so clean and I don't usually play with the R2 unless I'm just fooling around trying to see what the amp can do. I'll have to go play around with the amp to see if the over saturation created by selecting the R2 could be used in a good way. Thanks for reminding me.

Have you had any luck with finding a practical way to use that?
