Hi all,

OK so last night i changed out my stock 6L6's after 2 years use and put in some new JJ E34L's. Whilst there was a definite difference in tone i actually expected it to be more pronounced - that said i hadn't played in a couple of weeks so was kinda starting fresh rather than straight after playing with the 6L6's in. As it was fairly late i just played around for a short while and then packed up. I didn't change any settings really, maybe just the odd slight adjustment. I am aware that my setting will need adjusting.

Anyway today i had to go through a lot of material with a new drummer so knew i could mess around with a few settings etc. The strange thing occurred maybe an hour or so in. I'm fairly sure that my tone became substantially less bassy kind of all of a sudden. I don't think it was my imagination! I suppose to be fair it became almost closer to the sound i had expected from the EL34's.

My question is - assuming it isn't my imagination (which i don't think it is because the drummer kinda noticed it too) - is it that the tubes just took that amount of playing time to 'break in' where the mids just became more pronounced, making it seem lees bassy, or is it a sign of a problem somewhere?

Btw I was running quite loud - prob slightly too loud for the hard hitting drummer! - and i also run an OD808 in front and a mxr 10 band eq in the loop.

Thanks
