They sound very, very good. The only cabs that I have used with the Roadster are the Orange PPC 212 and the Avatar knockoff. I actually never owned the Orange, but did use it for two shows. The Port CIty is everything I am looking for in a cab. The Orange PPC is great, as is the Avatar. They both do a nice bass-rich cleans and very defined crunch/gain with the V-30s. BUT, the Orange and Avatar are (as everyone either knows of can figure) very directional, and kind of mess with you, if you: a) don't have them off of the ground during full-band practice; b) very heavy to carry around.
The Port City is, first off, very refreshingly "full" sounding. That is about the best way I could describe it. It just doesn't sound as one-sided as the other two cabs I mentioned. Those cabs are sort of, in a way, very bass/lows heavy. Don't get me wrong, the Orange/Avatar sound great, but not as lively as the Port. The Port City cab, even off of the ground, really does hit you all over -- especially if you use an amp-wedge. The Port has V30s though, so I will probably be loving my tones more as they get broken in.
The Port does a very good job reacting with the Roadster's clean channel especially. Actually, I kind of was thrown back by how much more midrange was available in my clean channels. I am definitely going to have to do some tweaking to get everything "perfect" for my ears. So far so good though. I like midrange and enjoy the cabs light weight. The top handle is seriously such a great idea, as is the ported front. That must have a large part to do with the sound of the cab. When I say you hear everything in the sonic spectrum, I truly mean ALMOST everything.
Finally, the cab is very sexy to my own personal liking. Even my fiance likes the color, design, and sound. The grill border, although it appears to be black, is actually colored dark kelly green. The best part of the cab, aside from everything I mentioned, was very affordable. It was originally retailing for $754, but I was able to score it new, out of the box, for only $605. I received this deal from MusicToyz.com. I didn't order it online, but instead I drove to their warehouse/showroom in Falmouth, ME (I live in MA). Very professional, and tons of boutique gear. The reason they were selling this for so cheap (and another 1x12 in a similar custom color scheme) is because they just aren't selling. The owner was telling me that he doesn't like to keep stock around for too long, and tries to move it accordingly. If you are interested, go online. I think they have their 1x12 listed for something like $570 on sale. Mint condition, in the box.
Actually, here is one gripe -- the tweed really suffers from the even and full sounding Port cab. Not terrible, but still there is a difference.
Definitely go check one out. You'll be surprised for sure.
