.....this is a completely new mix, different from my"Trouble" album release.

completely re-mixed, with new guitar tracks and bass track.

all guitars were tracked thu the Peavey JSX Mini Colossal.
bass was tracked thru the mini as well.

all guitars and bass were run direct from the recording out of the mini, to a A Designs Audio MP-1, to a ART DPS convertor, and into Sonar via a Maudio 24/96 card in digital.

drums were re-mixed from scratch, with aggressive eq, compression, and select reverb on the overheads, snare and kick.

i'm not done with it yet, but i wanted to share my results to date, and get feedback on it, since this is a big learning curve for me.

the Barber Direct Drive SS pedal, was used to push the front end of the Mini (which was set on a nice crunchy breakup, but no sustain).

a Carvin DC200K was used for all rhythms, and a custom strat was used for the solos.

as this is a work in progress, i'd love some feedback on how this mix translates to other systems...

thanks gibson!
i've heard that Yes comparison before..
maybe i should pull out some of my old yes cd's, and actually listen....!

Very good job indeed. All the instuments are clear and sound good in the mix. I think I might bring the bass out front just a tad more but that is just being picky.

That mini sounds, well, colossal :D

Gonzo,

Nice tune/vocals/arrangement as always but DI distorted guitar has never been my thing. I must say though that the lead guitar is better than the original. Back to cab please.

i agree with the bass comment...
i went back on saturday, and tracked a new bass track, using my Sansamp Bass DI, instead of the MINI (which just doesn't work for bass at all, cuz it's voiced for guitar)
much better mix i've got now....
i wiped the faders clean, and started over, with new drum mix, new bass tracks, completely different concept of how to mix for this song...
i'll post the new one soon, for a comparison...
the mini, suprisingly, DOES sound good.
i guess Satch knew what he was doing.
;)

trem-oh, come on now, you gotta admit the Mini sounds pretty rockin'!
LOL
the original solo stuff, was recorded with the boogie, but with the iso cab, and a 57.
it was more 'shreddy'......

this one, i just tried to be more lyrical... which seems to be a better balance, because the rhythm is so busy.

thanks for listening!

updated mix on the original IAC link-
much tighter drum mix, and showcases the colossal amp tone a bit more.

alas, i've sold the mini c.

hope the new owner likes it as much as i did...

i'm taking the dollars and investing in a palmer pdi-09 and a weber mass, and try the same recording experiment with the boogie.
