I was thinking about getting an Orange Rockerverb 50 head and running it through my Marshall 1960BX with the Celestion 25w Greenbacks. Does anyone know how this may sound? Thanks.

It will sound very cool. It will have a mid range honk that will sound like a herd of rhino's.

Well that's why I'm thinking about switching from my Stiletto because I don't get great mids. Thanks.

I'm guessing => "Classic Rock" :D

Lol. Well did the old Orange cabs use Greenbacks? They have V30's now.
I wasn't trying to be funny  I'm not sure if the early Oranges were using Celestion (Greenbacks) or Fanes back then.

For me, I always think there's actually four major guitar tube amp companies. The rest are derivatives from these companies:

Fenders, Marshall, Vox, and hi gain amps which MESA is the flag ship

Fender => Victoria, Kendricks, Allen, and what have you.

Marshall => Hiwatt, Sound City, Orange, Parks

Hi Gain Amps: MESA Boogies, Soldanos, Bogner, Diezel, etc ...

Vox => MESA's Mavericks, Blue Angel, LSS, Matchless, Bad Catz, Dr Z's not sure what model, AX84 projects etc ...

There's alot boutique amplifier companies (Dr. Z, Bad Cat, Matchless....) as well as production companies (Peavey, Carvin...) that makes variations of the above amps.

And there's the decaffeinated amps => modeling amps

I have 8 old 25W greenbacks in my '68 Basketweave Marshall stack. I can only imagine what they would sound like with the Rocketverb 50. Presently I run my JCM 2K DSL and occasionally my early DR through them. They have that Hendrix era vibe!

im telling you to do that then get a orange cab eventually and you will love it

Are Orange cabs worth more than the Marshall 1960X series? Do you think I would be able to do a trade for it?

Orange cabs are way more than an ax or bx cab. You might be able to trade towards one.

Apparently the Marshall's are more expensive. Check this out.

Orange 4x12 - $939 http://www.humbuckermusic.com/or4xguitcab.html
Marshall BX - $1,079 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-1960BX-Cabinet?sku=482771

I know that used Orange is typically more expensive used than Marshall. I didn't know that they start out opposite. I got my ax cabinet for about $500 used. I have been looking at Oranges and they have been typically about $700 used. I just refuse to buy any gear new anymore because I don't like the initail depreciation hit.

I second Russ' post! I typically see orange cabinets go for 700+ on ebay, and marshall a/b(x) cabs in the 500's. Im lookin for a good used orange cabinet myself!
