Hey guys, my buddy has an older 3ch triple recto from around '02-'03 and he was cleaning it up yesterday when he calls me. He said that the transformer on the left side as you look from the back of the amp appears to have this oily residue coming from the transformer on the side facing the v1 preamp tube. The amp functions just fine but it has him a little concerned. Any ideas on what it could be? He is religious about not letting ANY liquids of any kind even be in the vacinity (sp?) of his amp and he's sure that this had to come from the tranny.

Tell him to post a picture. If it's what I think it is, it's a natural occurrence and likely came that way from the factory.

Ok I'll see if I can get him to ake a picture wih his digital camera and bring it to me so I can post it. He doesn't have an internet connection to use. I checked my amp, although it is a 2008 triple recto, and I see no signs of any oily residue on mine.

What do you think it is?

Leftover epoxy, shellac, or whatever material they are using to coat the inside and outside of the transformers. Sometimes it leaks out when they burn in the transformers. It can appear like a golden, clear goo or even black.

One of my Rectos has the same thing. Its just leftover residue from the Trans construction like Elpelotero said.
