I have a combo amp on top of a speaker set up for recording, just the way I like it.
I wanted to do some recording with one of my other amps and didn't really want to mess with the speaker/microphone setup, so I plugged the combo amp's speaker into the speaker output of a Cab Clone and my head into its input.
Amp's 4 Ohm output 1->Cab Clone->Combo amp speaker
Amp's 4 Ohm output 2->bottom speaker cabinet
It worked great. I'm not actually doing anything with the cab clone for this setup besides actually extending the cable but it seriously simplified switching out which amp I was using.
