Hey

My 3 channel is coming up on a year old and it was on the floor in the shop before I bought it new for 4 or so months where it was probably abused by 15 years olds daily

I usally change all my tubes every year in my past tube amps just to keep em fresh and stop me from thinking about em . So I'm starting to think about getting a tube kit. I've found a bunch online .The high gain kits do interest me cause i use that sound .But its only part of my thing. I also need the clean to stay usable and Recto type clean which I like .

Do the high gain kits effect your channel 1 sounds ? And do they just add more gain or change the high gain sound and make it better . I run my gain on 3 modern at about 2pm . So I dont need more gain as I've got it on tap unused already .

I do like it as is but better is always good :D ) ?

I have always used preamp tubes rated for high gain and never really had any problems with my cleans. You may have to turn up the channel volume and reduce the channel gain a little, but its not much.

Yes, sometimes I wonder about those high gain sets (Eurotubes aka JJ's). However, I did buy a "high gain" set for my Mark 4 and I must admit that R2 did have a vast improvement on the crunch sound. I think the clean wasn't affected at all. I also did buy one of those gold pin sets, not sure if it was a placebo effect, but my Blues Junior really opened up as far as clarity and sound. Still, I wonder what makes a tube "high gain" as opposed to "normal/low gain."

Whatever...it sounds good, then so be it. :)

Unless you throw in a Mullard which has a butt ton of gain your clean tone should be fine.
