I'm now running my DR with 2 X 6V6 and for the preamp section i have try a lot of NOS 12ax7 and 12at7 (about 20 of different tubes) that a friend of mine give to me. For the preamp i juste play guitar and try to change tube one by one one each position and the difference between each tube is very audible at one place i still use the mesa stock 12ax7. With the 6V6 at the output i can now easily crank my amp about twelve or 1 o'clock and still ear my drumer playing and the amp is in fire. At low volume the sound is a lot better than before. I run My amp on EL34 bias and spongy mode. On the past i used 4X 6L6, 2X6L6 stock mesa and after i went to 2XEl34 Sovtek. But any changes i made this amp still sound like a Dual rectifier.
