Is this a dumb? I'm guessing this will change the tone and void the warranty. I dont plan on buying these but... sounds interesting.

it's just a new take on an old product...maybe you could get away with the preamp tube subs but the power tube subs just won't cut it sonically. your mileage may vary, of course
