picked this up locally this weekend off of CL - needs the footswitch and a cabinet. tested it attached to the Mk III and it was ... not very good. look forward to your comments.

Wait, you attached the head to a Mark III combo speaker, is that what you're saying?
That is...very much...not...the optimal cab for a Recto. They really need bigger cabs to work their magic.

It's a bit like putting a Formula One engine in a Fiat 127.

yes I tested it with my MS-12 in my Mk3 - just to make sure it worked.

I need a cab, and a footswitch. it is a series 2. any additional help or comments is great. thanks.

What specifically do you need help with? Procurement of a foot switch and cab shouldn't require forum discussion.

just looking for cab opinions - don't have much in my area. used to have a metal grill 2x12 that I dumped when I went headless a couple of years ago - now not really have anything local to go to to try out. opinions on 4x12 or 2x12 - speaker combinations ...

not really a metal player - the head was a steal so I couldn't pass it up. might as well use it.

Gotcha.
I play a Roadster through a Splawn 4x12 cab with their own speakers (supposed to be Greenback-ish clones). I dig this combo for what I do which is anything from classic rock to thrash style metal.
I've tried quite a few 4x12 cabs but my only 2x12 cab was a Mesa Recto vertical which I found a bit boxy sounding. I believe I'm in the minority here in saying that I don't care for the pairing of a Rectifier amp with the Rectifier cabs. At least the over size style. Rectos already have an overabundance of bass and the larger cabs accentuate this and make a loose bottom end even looser.
Also you must consider context. How are you playing this amp? In a band, recording, basement player, jam with buddies? And are you gigging or otherwise moving this rig around a bunch?

this will be a band environment eventually as the band is just getting together - plan on using it a/b with a choice between my Mark 3 and a vibrolux reverb.

any information concerning speakers for classic rock to hair metal are welcome.

cab is a Blackstar Artisan 412B - supposed to be loaded with Celestion 30s. 16ohm cab - run that through the 8ohm on the Rec 50 ???

Looks like a nice cab. Looking on Blackstar's website the cab should have two mono inputs, one 16 ohm & one 4 ohm.

Running the 16 ohm input from the 8 ohm output on the amp is safe, & you can also run a match of 4 ohms.

Are you buying new or used? The reason I ask is because I see that the Blackstar cab sells for the same $$ as a Mesa cab. If buying new I would get the Mesa cab.

used - its a local CL and he had a couple of crap heads in the ad too. was selling for $500 with one of the heads ... I responded with 'how much for the cab only' and he said $400. I let it drop since I'm not in a hurry. He replied he would take $300 which got my interest. if I could find a trad or recto 4x12 within that range I would take it ... I love my Mesas.

I'm going to try to test it tonight and if it is a decent sounding cab i'll probably get it.

well I picked up the 4x12 ... it is a Blackstar Artisan B - 4 v30s and nice options for stereo/mono and multiple 4/8/16ohm options. I mostly only tested through channel 2 and ... it rocked.

need some settings for classic rock tones ... LOL . I got the metal covered in spades right where it is now.

Vintage mode with high setting for presence. The other knobs will be dictated by your guitar/pickups and your desired tone.
