Tried using an ART Tube MP mic pre with a NOS JAN GE and I dont think my Recto has ever sounded this good.

I just wish my DR sounded like yours... I'm coming close to selling it as i just can't get a good sound out of it.
When I buy an amp I don't intend to buy pedals to make it sound good. It should sound good direct!!!

I believe one of the factors is the 212 cab... i'll be trying it through a 412 soon... lets see!!!

Fluff, that Mic Pre sounds amazing! <3
What's the name of the Line 6 interface you were using in your recording demo? I have basically everything I need to record crap except a Shure SM57 and an interface.

Dual Rectifiers are tricky beasts. My advice:
1) Get a very clear and articulate sounding pickup. Something that emphasizes mids and has a tight bass response is best.

2) Cabs are super important. The Recto 2 x 12 (horizontal) is good as is the Stiletto 4 x 12 or the Recto 4 x 12. I personally prefer the Stiletto one because it has much more mid focus with less highs and lows, something the Recto has in spades. That being said, my best investment ever was spending $40 on lumbar $150 on used speakers and about $80 on cab parts and building a copy of a Mills Mach 2x12B. The thing sounds monstrous and it has a tonne of clarity. The ported center baffle really clears up the tone and brings out the subtle details of any variety of crunch tone.

3) Sell it and buy something else...
Sometimes this just works best!

The mic pre is just a $30 ART Tube MP. Sounds crazy good for the money! I tried it cause I suspect something is wrong with my pre's in the Line 6 UX2 I have. ZERO highs. But its like 6 years old and I got it used.

Try different tubes. 34s or 77s (my fav) really sweeten the amp up. My sounded fantastic before and after the mods.

Nice tone/recording, but I still dont get one thing! You use two pre's (ART + UX2) before going to the PC? Why two preamps? My path is: Guitar > Boss OD-2 > 3ch Dual Rectifier > 4X12 Stand Rec Cab > Shure SM57 > Mixing Console > Computer.
Now, that ART or other preamp look like more appropriate than the pre's of the mixing console. For that price I have to try it. Good work fluff191!

Thanks guys!

As for the ART, I was using it as the pre and then going into the Line Input of the UX2 (bypassing the built in mic pre). Just using the UX2 to get the signal into the computer.
