I just received my first piece of Mesa Boogie equipment, a Mark V head!

It was a long 10 week wait!

Unfortunately I can't play it because I haven't yet received the 212v cab! Does anyone know if it's safe for me to turn the amp on in standby mode, without being connected to the speaker cab, just to see if it glows?

By the way where can I find the serial number?

Congrats! Welcome to the club.

The serial number is on a sticker on the chassis along the back near the power tubes. You gotta look up underneath.

It's safe to turn it on without the cab, just DO NOT take it out of standby.

Dom

It happened me twice that the speaker cable was not very well conected to the cab and the amp was on without standby for about 1 minute each..anyway nothing weird happened and the amp works fine, maybe it would happen bad things with a longer time..IM SO STUPID LOL

Okay, I just received my 212v cab :)

I decided to be cautious and not even plug in the amp head much less turn it on.

But now that I have the speaker cabinet, I still can't turn it on because there was no speaker cord in the box! Shouldn't I have received a cord with the speaker?

I almost did this as well since I had never owned a head before. At the last minute I asked if I can use a guitar cord to connect the head to the cab. It was probably all the sales guy could do to keep from rolling his eyes in front of me! "Uh-no" was all I got. Ah well, live and learn.

when I bought my speaker cable for the mkv the sales guy sold me one, but now Im not sure if its the right cable cause it looks like a guitar cable, could someone post a pic of the speaker cable please? :)

Unscrew one of the ends and slide it back to expose the solder connections and look at the wires. A guitar cable will have one wire in the center of the cable and a braided sheath that doubles as the second lead, a speaker cable will have a pair of identical stranded wires either side by side or twisted together.

well, I cant see nothing cause theres a plastic cover that reach the top of the cable so the wires are not exposed :(

Dont ever power up the head without a speaker load on it . If you dont believe me call mesa and ask them . Thats a good way to burn up an amp .

Guitar cables are shielded and speaker cables are not
