Hi everyone,

1st post.

Got my Mark V head last weekend and have noticed a weird kinda sizzle after the attack, on the decay of picking a note. Don't notice it on cleans, but on even slightly distorted chords I notice it.

Just now my amp is making a weird kind of sputtering sound with no playing. It sounds like a tube problem, but I tried another one at the store I bought the amp from and it does it too.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Vince

Is it a SSSSSHHHHHHH sound or a HHHHMMMMMMMM sound? Does it appear only on gainy settings or is it always on? Does the sound go away if your guitar is plugged in but your turn your guitar's volume knob off?

A hissing or ssshhh kind of sound is pre-amp hiss usually. A humming sound could be the transformer or the power tubes.

Mine has some hiss on the high gain settings. It has very mild transformer hum, too, but I only hear that if I'm very close to the amp.

I hear no transformer hum. I'm starting to suspect tubes as the noise sounds like very faint popcorn poppin is the only way I can describe it. The sizzle on fading notes is only on gainy settings.

Thanks for the reply! :D
